The Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary School Vocational Teachers Federation will observe a token fast in Chennai on October 31 to urge the government to look into their 15-point charter of demands.

The association, in a press release, said the government should take into account the work period during which the vocational teachers were on consolidated pay for computing their pension.

The association urged the government to grant incentive pay to vocational teachers who have acquired higher qualifications in other subjects as provided to other teachers. Among other demands, the association sought general transfer counselling for vocational teachers and wanted vocational curriculum to be made compulsory in all higher secondary schools.

To highlight their demands, the State general committee of the association decided to observe a fast in Chennai. A resolution to this effect was also passed at a meeting.
